Every vote counts.
With the House sitting at an 83-41 vote to approve two coal-fired power plants in western Kansas, a change in only one vote during the wrap-up session that starts April 30 could override the governor’s veto.
State Rep. Pat Colloton, R-Leawood, said although she is still grappling with the issue, she is considering changing her vote against the plants to a vote supporting the plants. Both Senate bill 237 and Senate bill 148 would allow the plants. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed both. Legislators have until May 29 to attempt an over-ride, which needs two-thirds majorities in the House and Senate. Supporters have more than enough in the Senate, but remain one vote short in the House.
Colloton said she voted against SB 148 in the regular session because she hoped for an overall green energy policy. She said coal should be included in an overall energy plan, but “we should also have provisions for alternative fuels and renewable and emission standards.”…. (Read entire article in Sun Newspapers)
