The loss of the Polar Bear will be much more than sad.
The loss of the Kansas wheat farmer will be an economic disaster to the state of Kansas.
Consider the Time article Global warming’s next victim: wheat. Other studies have shown likely scenarios in which the American wheat growing belt moves north to Wisconson and Canada. But the soil and earth conditions are not as hospitable to wheat in those states. The IPCC report shows us that a major consequence of a few degrees rise in global mean temperature will be more intense and varied storm activity. Like many deserts, the summers will be much hotter, and when the rains come they will more often come in torrents that cause erosion rather than what we are used to. This will cause a dramatic change in what can be grown in agriculture, even in natural systems.
